When it comes to blending video games with cinematic storytelling, few names carry as much weight as Hideo Kojima. And now, the legendary game designer has dropped some exciting news: a Death Stranding movie is in the works — and yes, Norman Reedus might just reprise his role on the big screen.
Reedus, best known for playing Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead , became gaming royalty when he starred as Sam Porter Bridges in the 2019 PS4 hit Death Stranding . Fans instantly connected with his performance, making him the perfect fit for a film adaptation. So, would he be interested in stepping back into Sam’s hiking boots?
“Absolutely, if that was an option,” Reedus said when asked about joining the project. “I don’t know what’s going on with it, honestly. It’s still in early stages, but yeah — of course!”
Right now, there’s no official casting, but things are already moving behind the scenes. The movie will be directed by Nicolas Pesce, known for his work with A24 — the same studio partnering with Kojima Productions on this ambitious crossover between gaming and cinema.
And speaking of timing? Kojima himself hinted at a possible 2027 release. That might seem far off, but for a visionary like Kojima, patience is part of the process. He’s always dreamed of making a movie, though he admits he won’t be writing the script himself — not while he’s busy crafting his next big game projects.
“I grew up loving films,” Kojima shared. “Directing would be a way to honor that passion. Plus, let’s face it — I’m getting older. If I’m going to try something new, better do it while I’ve still got some youth left!”
Meanwhile, fans can look forward to Death Stranding 2: On the Beach , coming June 26 exclusively to PlayStation 5. After that? Kojima plans to dive into Physint , a spy-action title rumored to have some cinematic elements. Oh, and don’t forget about OD — the mysterious Xbox-exclusive title announced back in 2023… which we haven’t heard from in quite a while.
So, whether you’re a gamer or a cinephile, the future looks packed with Kojima-sized surprises.
