Spoiler alert: Nobody’s getting axed… yet.
In a move that shocked literally no one who watches TV on NBC, all three One Chicago series — Chicago Med , Chicago Fire , and Chicago P.D. — have been officially renewed for the 2025–2026 season. That’s right! The holy trinity of Windy City drama isn’t going anywhere, despite our collective fear that someone might finally get written off via tragic elevator malfunction or suspiciously timed car crash.
According to Deadline, NBC has greenlit:
The decision comes after NBCUniversal revealed that the current seasons of all three shows combined have racked up around 46 million viewers across NBC and Peacock. And if you’re wondering how many episodes each show will get next season? Well, hold onto your paramedic helmets — it’s likely going to be slightly fewer than the usual 22. We know, we know — network TV used to be 22 episodes like it was going out of style, but now even that feels like asking for too much in this post-apocalyptic streaming world.
Look, we all remember the days when networks would cancel your favorite show because three people watched it — and one of them was related to the director. But One Chicago ? It’s not just surviving; it’s thriving. Each show continues to pull in solid live viewership, and their streaming numbers are actually increasing. So yeah, renewing these shows wasn’t exactly a tough call.
This also means fans can watch the final episodes of the current seasons without having to deal with that dreaded cliffhanger limbo where characters vanish into the void (looking at you, Sense8 ). No need to start a Change.org petition — these stories will continue, and Hank Voight will continue being the human equivalent of a siren.
Ah yes, the One Chicago crossover — the rarest of events since the pandemic turned logistical coordination into a nightmare. But in 2025, the franchise brought back the multi-show event for the first time since 2019. Fans were hyped. Reddit threads exploded. People cried real tears.
Now that all three shows are coming back, there’s hope another crossover could happen. However, with shorter episode orders expected, squeezing in a full-blown inter-departmental crisis might prove tricky. Still, don’t count it out. If they can fit a bomb, a hostage situation, and a romantic subplot into one hour, they can definitely do a crossover.
Let’s face it — in today’s chaotic TV landscape, getting renewed is basically a superpower. And the One Chicago trio has clearly mastered the art of survival. They’ve weathered cast changes, fake deaths, real deaths, and even a global pandemic. And through it all, they’ve kept audiences coming back week after week.
So while other shows are busy saying tearful goodbyes, Med , Fire , and P.D. are already planning their next dramatic confessionals, slow-burn romances, and intense courtroom scenes. Long may they run — preferably without any more mysterious disappearances… unless it’s someone we didn’t like anyway.
